Practicing The Power Of Now

PRESENT MOMENT AWARENESS

Excerpted from page 40 - Practicing The Power Of Now - by Echart Tolle

USE YOUR SENSES FULLY.  Be where you are.  Look around.  Just look, don't interpret.  See the light, shapes, colors, textures.  Be aware of the silent presence of each thing.  Be aware of the space that allows everything to be.

Listen to the sounds; don't judge them.  Listen to the silence underneath the sounds.

Touch something - anything - and feel and acknowledge its Being.

Observe the rhythm of your breathing; feel the air flow in and out, feel the life energy inside your body.  Allow everything to be, within and without.  Allow the "isness" of all things.  Move deeply into the Now.

You are leaving behind the deadening world of mental abstraction, of time.  You are getting out of the insane mind that is draining you of life energy, just as it is slowly poisoning and destroying the earth.  You are awakening out of the dream of time into the present.

OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON

A parable by Ebrahim Rashid:

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. What food might this contain?' The mouse wondered . He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning:

There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!'

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, 'Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.'

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!' The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.'

The mouse turned to the cow and said 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!'  The cow said, 'Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose.'

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.   In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail was caught by the trap. The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the  pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember ----when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

Remember:
Each of us is a vital thread in another person's tapestry.
Our lives are woven together for a reason.
One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend!!!

Enlightment Comes In Many Forms And Flavors

La

My purpose in life is to awaken individuals to their highest and best.

To that end, I received my Masters in Social Work, subsequently counseling addicts on the techniques required to break their addictive behaviors and tendencies.  Building upon my prior education and hands-on practice, my continued studies and passion to move individuals forward in life have merged into my ideal career - Life & Success Coaching.

Each of us have our own stories. We define who we are by what we have done in the past.  We perceive ourselves through the lens of what we have thus far been able to accomplish.  These stories serve to establish our beliefs about ourselves, and our potential. They can lock us into limiting patterns based on what are best defined as limiting beliefs. Breaking these patterns reveals a full palate of unlimited choices - available to those whose beliefs are limitless.

Throughout the centuries, humanity has sought to understand the meaning of life - what it's really about - and how each of us function.  Any number of Gurus, teachings, philosophies, religions and guided meditation techniques have been preached, taught, created, disassembled, reassembled, and practiced in nearly every form imaginable.  Awareness, mindfulness and recognition of existing beliefs are at the core of every significant practice leading to individual advancement and enlightenment.

The following are just a few of the thousands of approaches to self awareness and enlightenment.  I hope you appreciate this resource, and find the links of interest.  When you are ready to have a conversation about your own personal goals, it would be my great honor to hear from you, if only to get acquainted.

Staying Present Throughout the Day

In this exercise you will use your Focus Tool to bring yourself back into the moment throughout your day, every day. Through being more aware of yourself, you will find that you can be sharply aware of everything around you. In noticing what you are thinking and how you are carrying your tension, you have the option to lake a deep breath and relax. This can make any of your daily activities much more enjoyable.

Rely on your Focus Tool throughout the day. Do a quick body scan every time it alerts you or whenever you become aware of yourself again. Notice where your body is tense and where it is relaxed. Observe your thoughts and any emotions that might be evoked. The steps in this exercise are:

    * Anchor yourself in the moment with your breath.
    * Do a body scan for sensations and tension.
    * Relax any tension you find to the best of your ability.
    * Be open with all of your senses to the life going on around you.
    * Observe your thoughts as they arise.
    * Fully accept, don't resist, whatever you sense.
    * Be patient and gentle with yourself.

Personality Dimensions® is a dynamic “self-discovery” system that is supported by both research and validation work undertaken in Canada since 2002. It draws its inspiration from temperament theory and provides a readily understandable methodology that utilises self-discovery techniques for building self-awareness, self-esteem and effective communication strategies. This proven system has been utilised by such organisations as Disney, Kodak and Microsoft. Personality Dimensions® helps to explain what motivates behaviour in people with different personalities or temperaments. The highly interactive, informative format will help you to understand why others behave in a certain way and why other people don’t always see and act out in the way that you do. This system teaches us that each individual has a preferred temperament style as well as learning to work more efficiently with our least preferred temperament styles.

Dr. Jaques Mabit, a French-born doctor who runs a therapeutic community in Peru, Takiwasi, says:

Concepts of the shaman can be experienced by anyone and therefore constitute a body of knowledge accessible to scientific study through self-controlled experimentation ... Understanding the practices and representations of shamanism in a mandatory pass for work the body, or a self-experimentation ... The true shaman is initiated by accurate and rigorous techniques which are fully committed, using his own body as a recipient of the macrocosm and the forces that animate and simultaneously inducing a self-exploration of their personal blocks tied to his personal history , their family heirlooms, cultural, collective, in short the microcosm which carries ... Teacher education is not through words, of discourse, the teacher speaks very little and only controls the learner experiences to avoid getting lost in the labyrinths of the unconscious or mythic time-space in which newly enters its disciple. Therefore, education is achieved through self-discovery techniques whose purpose is to bring about changes in mental states that give the student the ability to perceive directly, without intermediary, aspects of reality beyond ordinary awareness generally, 'everyday' normal, "especially when it comes to people like me who live in urban, Westernized which have no connecting with nature.

One-Minute Mindfulness.

Playing your EDGE … at WORK.
During a moment of peak stress…
  • PAUSE.
  • SCAN your body from head to feet.
  • NOTICE where you have the most/least sensation.
(Where do you feel your body has moved OVER your EDGE?)
  • NOTICE the quality of your breath.
  • NOTICE any thoughts, feelings, and images.
  • NOTICE if you want to REACT.
  • Just NOTICE.
After 1 minute gently inquire,
“How do I choose to BE in this moment?”

Trouble In Paradise?

Laurina

Trouble In Paradise?
By Tom Martin

With real estate prices and job prospects depressed, odds are you know someone who is struggling to make ends meet financially, or is finding it difficult to chart a new life-course amid present-day realities.

Fort Lauderdale based Coach/Trainer, Laurina Anderson, is no stranger to challenges.  Raised in a basement apartment on the south side of Chicago, this high school dropout, married at eighteen, had found herself a single mother of two lovely daughters (one of whom is mentally disabled) by the age of twenty-six. Struggling mightily to make ends meet, Laurina knows “lack” all to well.

Determined to thrive, she received her Masters Of Social Work (MSW) from Aurora University, subsequently serving as an Addictions Counselor at Rosecrans in Rockford, Illinois.  Working with addicts served as the foundation for what was to become her life’s passion and purpose, transforming people’s lives for the better.

Laurina made the commitment to become a personal life coach in 2000.  She trained under best-selling author and self-help leader, Debbie Ford, read countless books and attended all the major spiritual seminars.

According to Anderson, “Each of us have our own stories.  We define who we are by what we have done in the past.  We perceive ourselves through the lens of what we have thus far been able to accomplish.  These stories serve to establish our beliefs about ourselves, and our potential (or lack thereof).  They can lock us into patterns based on what are best defined as limiting beliefs.  Breaking these patterns reveals a full palate of unlimited choices - available to those whose beliefs know no limits.”

Laurina’s clients come from all walks of life.  “I work with both men and women ranging in age from twenty-five to sixty-five, including a copywriter, an attorney, a bank vice president, a financial advisor, a radio broadcast network owner, a top executive female engineer and a builder, just to name a few,” Anderson said.  The copywriter from Long Island writes:

“Amazing is my new norm.  I now have the ULTIMATE tool I need to (1) recognize and deal with my limiting beliefs, (2) appreciate my true limitless nature, and (3) create what I DO want in my life. As a result, I now am enjoying greatly improved relationships with myself and my loved ones and am beginning to manifest abundance in all areas of my life. Work is pouring in!  Everything just keeps getting better and better! And better!”
